Do most coastal cities have their skylines along the waterfronts?
As a geographer, I learned more than 90-percent of the world's population lives around major bodies of water. I'm very adept at noticing city skylines. However, there's one thing I've seen in common about many major cities located along coastlines, major rivers, or large lakes. A good percentage of them have their central business districts along the waterfronts. Examples would be New York, Boston, Miami, Baltimore, Chicago, Detroit, Cleveland, St. Louis Seattle, Vancouver, San Francisco, San Diego, Hong Kong, Shanghai, and Rio de Janeiro. The only city I can think of off the top of my head near a major body of water whose downtown area isn't near the beach or waterfront is Los Angeles. Do most cities near large bodies of water have their skylines located along the waterfront?
